Niall Flint’s 41st minute strike gave Aber a deserved three points and that victory has narrowed the margin between 8th place and Aber’s current 11th position to just three points. With 5 games to go, the stage is set for an exciting and dramatic climax to this season. Saturday’s visitors, Flint Town United, come into this game on the back of a three match unbeaten run, with a win at home to Airbus on 11th March sandwiched between draws against Pontypridd and Caernarfon.
They currently sit in 9th position, with 8 wins and 32 points from their 27 matches played so far. Experienced former Football League striker Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro and January signing Zack Clarke are Flint’s top scorers so far this season with 6 goal each, whilst the impressive Okera Simmonds has hit 5. This will be the fourth time the teams have faced off this season and so far the honours are even at one win each and one draw. Aber won the previous meeting at Aberystwyth University Park Avenue back in October and the Green Army will be hoping history repeats itself this time around! Admission prices at Aberystwyth University Park Avenue Stadium are £8 for Adults, £5 for Concessions, £2 for Secondary School age children and free entry for Primary School age children.
In a remarkably tight game of few chances home keeper Matt Turner did brilliantly to save Okera Simmons’ 17th minute penalty, and a draw looked inevitable until Evans popped up two minutes into injury time to score with an overhead bicycle kick! Four minutes later Mark Cadwallader was sent off for a second yellow, but Aber held on for a massive result.
