Who are the 7AFL commentators? Football’s No. 1 commentary team is primed and ready to bring fans an epic 2023 AFL season in what is set to be an exciting race to September. With some fresh and familiar faces delivering all the action live and free, there’s no other place footy fans will want to be than on Seven, your home of footy. In a bonus for fans, much-loved Collingwood and Carlton cult hero, Dale Thomas, will join Seven’s AFL broadcast in a field commentary role across the 2023 season, while current Geelong captain Patrick Dangerfield will step behind the Seven mic, kicking off with a Saturday night appearance in Round 1.


The following night Collingwood - who missed out on a grand final berth last year by the barest of margins - will take on reigning premier Geelong in another eagerly anticipated blockbuster. There will be Thursday night games for the first five rounds of the season and Round 4 will be massive, with a double-header on Good Friday (April 7), a Thursday night cracker between Brisbane and Collingwood at the Gabba, and the traditional Easter Monday clash between Geelong and Hawthorn. The Anzac games again fall on Round 6, with the Anzac Eve battle between Melbourne and Richmond on Monday night (April 24) at the MCG tipped to be massive. Collingwood and Essendon will again hog the Anzac Day limelight on Tuesday afternoon (April 25).

There is an extra round this season due to the new Gather Round (where all teams play their game in one state) which will be played in South Australia. All teams will have a bye.

The first bye round is in Round 12. In Round 13, only two teams have a bye, but in Round 14, six teams will be missing in action. The last ‘locked in’ round is Round 15, after that the games have been confirmed but times and dates of the games are yet to be determined. Round 24 will begin at the end of August. On the Saturday night of that round, there will be a grand final rematch with Geelong hosting Sydney at GMHBA Stadium. Round 10 kicks off the two-week-long Sir Doug Nicholls Round where teams will don Indigenous guernseys. The feature game will be the Dreamtime at the ‘G match on the Saturday night (on May 20). Round 13 features the King’s Birthday clash between Melbourne and Collingwood on Monday, June 12. The home and away season will end with round 24 in the final week of August.

Thursday and Friday night games headline the schedule alongside Saturday nights and most Sunday afternoons. Monday blockbusters on Seven include Geelong v Hawthorn (Easter Monday) and the Melbourne v Richmond game on April 24. The Collingwood v Essendon Anzac Day blockbuster on Tuesday, April 25, is also live and free on Seven..
